Smriti Mandhana Joins Elite Club with Historic Century
Smriti Mandhana has carved her name into cricket history, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve centuries in all three international formats: Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
This monumental achievement unfolded during the first T20I match between India Women and England Women at Trent Bridge. Mandhana delivered a spectacular innings, scoring 112 runs off a mere 62 balls.
Leading the team as captain, Mandhana showcased an aggressive yet composed performance, hitting 15 boundaries and three impressive sixes. Her remarkable innings propelled India to a formidable total of 210/5 in 20 overs – their highest-ever T20I score against England.
This century also marked Mandhana's maiden T20I century, a feat that had previously eluded all other Indian women cricketers. Her innings set an electrifying tone early on, blending elegance with power, effectively neutralizing England's leading spinners like Sophie Ecclestone with her confident stroke play.
The innings also included valuable contributions from Harleen Deol, who scored 43 runs off 23 balls, and Deepti Sharma, who remained not out with 7 runs off 3 balls, as India maintained a consistently strong run rate. Lauren Bell emerged as England’s most successful bowler, claiming three wickets.
Mandhana's accomplishment positions her among a select group of cricketers worldwide, both male and female, who have attained centuries across all three formats of the game.
Her achievement is a defining moment not only for her personal career but also for Indian women’s cricket, inspiring a new generation of cricketers to pursue ambitious goals and overcome barriers. With this commanding performance, Mandhana has reinforced her status as a leading figure in Indian women’s cricket – demonstrating consistency, fearlessness, and a knack for breaking records.
